ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- University of Michigan men's tennis head coach Adam Steinberg announced on Monday (Nov. 24) the signing of Myles Schalet (Montville, N.J./Newark Academy) and Gabe Tishman (Bedford, N.Y./Green Farms Academy) to National Letters of Intent during the early signing period for the 2015-16 academic year.
Schalet, a five-star recruit, comes to Michigan as the No. 24-ranked senior in the country and No. 2-ranked recruit from New Jersey. He won several Eastern section tournaments during the summer of 2013 before making the singles finals and doubles semifinals at the USTA Regional Tournament in Grand Rapids, Mich. He was the doubles champion at the Coca Cola ITF Tournament in St. Lucia, and also made the finals of the singles draw at the event. Then in St. Vincent, he won both the singles and doubles titles at the SVGTA IFT Junior International tournament. Schalet also won the doubles title at the National Bank ITF and made it to the finals in the doubles draw of the Goombay Splash Bowl.
Tishman joins Schalet as a five-star recruit and is currently rated as the No. 61-ranked senior in the country and No. 5-ranked recruit from New York. He was a Eastern Super Six singles finalist in September and a doubles finalist at the Eastern Sweet 16 this past May. He also advanced to the championship match of the doubles draw at the Eastern Super Six Point Set in January.
Schalet and Tishman teamed up to win the USTA National Selection Doubles Tournament in February, as well as the Eastern Super Six Section Championships this past June. They lost in the finals of the ITF International Grass Court Championships.
