Husky Classic

SEATTLE, Wash. -- Four Wolverine distance runners competed in the 5,000-meter run at the Husky Invitational, with a pair running in the highly anticipated invitational section and one each participating in the fastest two heats of the non-invitational section.

Among many of the top distance runners in the country, senior/junior Morsi Rayyan (Dewitt, Mich./St. Johns) led the Maize and Blue in the invitational section, finishing 12th overall in 13:57.07. Junior/sophomore Mason Ferlic (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) followed Rayyan across the line in 14:05.35 -- good enough for 14th place. It marked the collegiate debut in the indoor 5,000m for Rayyan and Ferlic.

Senior/junior Mark Beams (Vicksburg, Mich./Vicksburg) competed in the fastest section of the 5,000-meter run, recording a personal-best time of 14:07.10, to finish 10th in his heat and 10th overall out of the 83 runners competing in the non-invitational 5,000-meter run.

Sophomore/freshman Tony Smoragiewicz (Rapid City, S.D./Rapid City Central) clocked a time of 14:28.22 to finish sixth in heat three and 28th overall in the non-invitational 5,000-meter run.

Michigan will not have any athletes competing tomorrow (Saturday, Feb. 15) on the second and final day of the Husky Classic.
