PALO ALTO, Calif. -- Fifth-year senior Lex Williams (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team won the 10,000-meter run on Friday (March 26) at the Stanford Invitational, held at Cobb Track at Angell Field.

Williams crossed the finish line with a time of 28:34.28, 1.43 seconds ahead of UC-Santa Barbara's Scott Smith in the first section. Willliams cleared his previous career best -- 30:03.89, set at last year's Big Ten Outdoor Championships -- by a sizable margin.

Three other U-M distance runners were in action on Friday. Junior tri-captain Craig Forys (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) took 13th in section two of the 5,000-meter run (14:17.52). Fifth-year senior Tony Nalli (Ann Arbor, Mich./Dexter) and redshirt freshman Bobby Aprill (Dexter, Mich./Dexter) both ran in the second section of the 10K, finishing 27th and 30th, respectively. Nalli's time of 30:29.29 was a new career best, breaking the old mark of 30:50.82 set in May 2008, while Aprill ran the 10K for the first time in his collegiate career.

The rest of the U-M track and field team will be in action at the Victor Lopez/Bayou Classic in Houston, Texas, on Saturday (March 27). Competition will begin at 11 a.m. CDT.
