PHILADELPHIA, Pa. -- Fifth-year senior Jeremy Schneider (West Bloomfield, Mich./Andover HS), sophomore Nate Brannen (Cambridge, Ontario/Preston HS) and freshmen Nick Willis (Lower Hutt, New Zealand/Hutt Valley HS) and Andrew Ellerton (Windsor, Ontario/Confederation HS) of the University of Michigan men's track team took sixth place in the 4x800-meter relay to close out the 109th running of the Penn Relays this afternoon (Saturday, April 26) at the University of Pennsylvania's Franklin Field.
The U-M group clocked in with a time of 7:25.16 in the race, as Arkansas exacted a measure of revenge after finishing second to the Wolverines in yesterday's (Friday, April 25) distance medley relay race with its championship time of 7:16.09.
The result was the fastest finish of the outdoor season by the Wolverines, who clocked in nearly eight seconds quicker than their time at the Florida State Relays (March 21). Michigan held off the FSU Seminoles to maintain sixth position but was unable to come up on Big Ten rivals Penn State for the final spot in the top five. PSU posted a time of 7:23.58.
Michigan's unit was composed of three members of its winning DMR group. Brannen, Ellerton and Willis ran with sophomore quarter-miler DarNell Talbert (San Diego, Calif./Mt. Carmel HS) in yesterday's race.
The Wolverines will compete at the Jesse Owens Classic next Friday and Saturday (May 2-3) in Columbus, Ohio.
