TOLEDO, Ohio -- Five different Wolverines won event titles to lead the University of Michigan men's track and field team in the 2014 regular-season finale at the Toledo Invitational on Friday (May 9) at Fetterman Stadium.
In the long jump, senior/junior Patrick Cochran (Erie, Pa./McDowell) was just 1.5 inches shy of his career-best mark, with a winning jump of 7.51 meters (24-7.5). Freshman Louis Lamberti (Petoskey, Mich./Petoskey) cleared a personal-best height of 2.00 meters (6-6.75) to win the high jump. Rounding out the victories in the field was senior/junior Justin Gaumer (Holly, Mich./Holly) in the discus with a career-best mark of 51.39 meters (168-7.25)
On the track, senior/junior James Yau (Troy, Mich./Troy) clocked a personal-best time of 9:00.83 in the 3,000-meter steeplechase to secure first place, while senior Herman Washington (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) won the 110-meter hurdles in 14.49.
The Wolverines will begin the championship portion of their season, when they travel to West Lafayette, Ind., for the Big Ten Outdoor Championships from Friday-Sunday, May 16-18, on the campus of Purdue University.
N O T E S
Cody Riffle made his outdoor season debut after missing the majority of indoor season and all of outdoor season to date with a hand injury. He finished second in the shot put with a mark of 17.65 meters (57-10.75).
Chris Maye (10.82) and Codie Nolan (10.83) finished back to back in the 100-meter dash in second and third place, respectively. In the 200-meter dash, they switched places, as Nolan took third (21.80), and Maye placed fourth (21.99, PR).
