EUGENE, Ore. -- The University of Michigan men's track and field team was represented by junior/sophomore Derek Sievers (Byron Center, Mich./Byron Center) and senior/junior Morsi Rayyan (Dewitt, Mich./St. Johns) on the opening day of the NCAA Outdoor Championships on Wednesday (June 11) at the University of Oregon's Hayward Field.
Sievers competed in flight one of the shot put, where he hit 18.77 meters (61-6) on his first attempt, which proved to be his best throw of the day. That mark was good enough for 16th place, which earned him All-America second team honors in his first trip to the NCAA meet.
In the 10,000-meter run, Rayyan clocked a time of 30:17.87 to secure 18th place and garner All-America honorable mention in his first trip to the NCAA Outdoor Championships.
Junior/sophomore Mason Ferlic (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) will be in action for the Wolverines tomorrow (Thursday, June 12), competing in the 3,000-meter steeplechase semifinals at 5:35 p.m. PDT. The championships will be live on ESPN3 from 3:55-8 p.m. PDT tomorrow.
