DES MOINES, Iowa -- University of Michigan freshman men's javelin thrower Stephen Burk (Parsippany, N.J./Parsippany) represented the Wolverines at the USA Junior Track and Field Championships on Saturday (June 22) at Drake Stadium. The meet serves as the Team USA qualifier for this year's IAAF World Championships, which will be held from Aug. 10-18 in Moscow, Russia.
Burk's second throw of 57.66 meters (189-2) proved to be his best of the day and helped him finish ninth in the competition -- just one spot shy of advancing to the finals. William & Mary freshman Robert Smutsky won the competition with a mark of 69.08 meters (226-8).
