SACRAMENTO, Calif. -- Junior/sophomore Mason Ferlic (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team placed ninth in the 3,000-meter steeplechase final at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Sunday (June 29) at Sacramento State University's Hornet Stadium.
In his first appearance at the USA Championships, Ferlic was in 10th place at the first water barrier before moving into the eighth position for the majority of the race. He was passed before the finish line and edged by .26 seconds, completing the race in 8:43.12 to secure ninth place.
Ferlic was the highest finisher of the two collegiate steeplers in the 14-man final.
Former Wolverine Craig Forys joined Ferlic in the steeplechase final and ran to a sixth-place finish in a time of 8:37.06.
