ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's track and field head coach Fred LaPlante announced Thursday (Jan. 5) that fifth-year seniors Craig Forys (Howell, N.J./Colts Neck) and Robert Peddlar (Kingston, Jamaica/Wolmer's Boys) and senior Matthew Campbell (Rochester, Mich./Rochester) will serve as team captains to represent the 111th team at Michigan.
"The athletic department has provided outstanding opportunities for all of our student-athletes and staff to understand the value and responsibilities of leadership," said LaPlante. "The title of team captain is held with high esteem and Craig, Matt and Robert have earned this honor and have the full support of our staff and team."
Forys will serve as captain for the third straight season, Peddlar will captain the Maize and Blue for the second consecutive year, and Campbell was selected to lead the Wolverines for the first time. Each captain was chosen by the team and coaches to represent the different event areas -- Forys (distance), Campbell (sprints) and Peddlar (field).
"Our student-athlete leaders are the key to bringing our various event groups (distance, sprint, field) together for a common goal," LaPlante said. "Craig, Matt and Robert have had outstanding communication with each other, our staff, and all the members of our team. They are prepared to lead us through the challenges for a successful 2012 season."
The Wolverines will begin the 2012 season by hosting The Dual versus Ohio State on Saturday, Jan. 14, at 6 p.m. at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
