ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's track and field head coach Fred LaPlante announced Wednesday (Jan. 9) that fifth-year senior Bobby Aprill (Dexter, Mich./Dexter), junior Ali Arastu (Northville, Mich./Northville) and senior Jack Greenlee (Cincinnati, Ohio/St. Xavier) will serve as team captains for the 2013 season.

"All of Michigan Athletics places a great deal of emphasis on the understanding and value of leadership," said LaPlante. "Through this process, our athletes are well qualified and take responsibility to identify our team leaders."

Each captain was chosen by the team and coaches to represent the different event areas -- Aprill (distance), Arastu (sprints) and Greenlee (field). It marks the first year representing the Wolverines for all three captains.

Aprill has been a consistent face of the men's distance program over the last four years. After exhausting his cross country eligibility in 2011 and using this past fall to continue his training, he returns for his final indoor and outdoor season as a Wolverine.

"In selecting BobbyAprill, AliArastu, and JackGreenlee as our 2013 track and field captains, they are recognizing three men that are all outstanding students, outstanding competitors, and outstanding communicators. I congratulate them and our staff looks forward to working with them in our commitment to be the Leaders and Best."

In 2012, Arastu advanced to the NCAA Outdoor Championships, where he finished ninth to earn Second Team All-America honors. He was also a member of the indoor 4x400-meter relay team that garnered Honorable Mention All-America honors at the national indoor meet. At the Big Ten Championships, his runner-up finish and U.S. Olympic Trial qualifying time in the 400-meter hurdles earned him a spot on the All-Big Ten second team.

Greenlee etched his name into the Big Ten record book last season, winning the conference outdoor pole vault title to earn First Team All-Big Ten honors. He also advanced to the NCAA East Preliminary Round for the second straight season.

The Wolverines will kick off the 2013 season when they host the annual Jack Harvey Invitational on Saturday, Jan. 19, at 10:30 a.m. at the U-M Indoor Track Building.
