ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan men's track and field head coach Fred LaPlante announced Monday (May 3) the addition of Aliasghar Arastu (Northville, Mich./Northville), Ed Hur (Bloomfield Hills, Mich./Bloomfield Hills Andover), Justin Gaumer (Holly, Mich./Holly) and Michael Parker Jr. (Jackson, Mich./Michigan Center) to the 2010-11 recruiting class.
"We are excited to add these four prospects to our outstanding freshman class," LaPlante said. "These four guys are all from Michigan and will fit in nicely with our program. We are confident that these guys will make a positive and significant impact on our team during their freshman seasons."
Arastu, or Ali, is a native of Northville, Mich., and attends Northville H.S. and is among the top 20 prep hurdlers in the nation in the 300-meter hurdles. As a junior in 2009, Arastu took second place at the Michigan Division I State Championships in the 300-meter event.
Hur is a native of Bloomfield Hills, Mich., and attends Bloomfield Hills Andover H.S. As a senior in 2010, Hur was the Michigan state champion in the long jump (indoor) with a far jump of 23-2 1/2 feet.
Gaumer is a native of Holly, Mich., and attends Holly H.S. Gaumer can throw in all three events but specializes in discus. As a junior in 2009, Gaumer was third at the Division 1 Michigan State Championships with a far throw of 173-1 feet. His far throw in the shot put is 52-2 feet.
Parker Jr. is a native of Jackson, Mich., and attends Michigan Center H.S. As a junior in 2009, Parker Jr. was the Division III state champion in the 110- and 300-meter hurdles. He ranks among the top 20 prep hurdlers in the nation in the 300-meter hurdles.
The four will join fall signees Patrick Cochran (Erie, Pa./McDowell), Eric Gavin (Chicago Heights, Ill./Marian Catholic), Eric Oliver (Hazel Crest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor), Cody Riffle (Toledo, Ohio/St. John's Jesuit) and Herman Washington (Blacklick, Ohio/Gahanna Lincoln) as Wolverines beginning in the fall.
