PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Sophomore/freshman Mason Ferlic (St. Paul, Minn./Mounds Park Academy) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team was named co-Big Ten Conference Track Athlete of the Week today (Wednesday, May 8) after registering the second-fastest 3,000-meter steeplechase in the Big Ten at the Toledo Invitational on Friday, May 3.
In his collegiate 3,000-meter steeplechase debut, Ferlic won the event with a time of 8:51.55, which ranks second in the Big Ten and eighth in the NCAA East Region.
Ferlic shares the final weekly award of the season with Indiana's Cornelius Strickland. This marks the first Big Ten outdoor weekly honor of Ferlic's career and first for Michigan this season.
The Wolverines will begin the championship portion of their season at the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, which will be hosted by Ohio State (May 10-12). Action will begin on Friday at noon and resume again on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. and on Sunday at 11 a.m. at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
