ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Freshman Philip Washington (West Bloomfield, Mich./West Bloomfield) of the University of Michigan men's track and field team will compete in the 400-meter dash at the USA Junior Outdoor Championships from June 15-17 at Indiana's Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind.
The first round of the 400-meter dash will be contested on Saturday (June 16) at 5:35 p.m., followed by the final on Sunday (June 17) at 3:25 p.m. The meet will serve as the Team USA qualifier for this year's IAAF World Junior Championships, which will be held July 10-15 in Barcelona, Spain.
At the Big Ten Outdoor Championships, Washington was just one of two freshmen to qualify for the 400-meter dash final, finishing seventh with a time of 47.17. He qualified for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds where he placed 36th in 47.37.
Washington was also a member of the 4x400-meter relay team that took fifth at the conference meet and went on to qualify for the NCAA Championships at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds. The squad finished 19th at the national meet, landing all four members on the All-America honorable mention list.
