ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan men's and women's track and field programs announced Wednesday (Nov. 14) that a dual meet against Michigan State will highlight the 2013 indoor track and field regular-season slate. The meet will be hosted by Grand Valley State University on Jan. 26, 2013, at 6 p.m. at GVSU's Kelly Family Sports Center in Allendale, Mich.
"This competition will showcase the best of what track and field has to offer," said men's head coach Fred LaPlante. "It will feature high-quality athletes on both sides pitted against their rivals in a two-hour time frame that will be action packed from start to finish. The experience will be memorable for all athletes, coaches, and spectators."
This event will mark the first-ever indoor dual meet between Michigan and Michigan State's women's programs, while the Spartan and Wolverine men have not met head-to-head in an indoor dual meet since 1976.
"We are very grateful and excited for the opportunity to compete head-to-head with our instate rivals," said women's head coach James Henry. "We are emphasizing quality head-to-head competition with open-scored races, as well as spirited competition balanced across all event areas. The meet will create an opportunity for all members of the team to contribute to the success of our team. It should be a great event for all involved and I know our team is excited to get out on the track and compete."
The Kelly Family Sports Center, which opened in 2008, features a 300-meter track Mondo Super-X surface with six lanes on the oval and nine lanes on the sprint straightaway, as well as seating for 800 spectators.
Tickets will go on sale three weeks prior to the event, with each institution selling tickets for assigned sections. Presale tickets are $7 for adults and $4 for students and seniors (general admission), and a $12 VIP track-level pass is available. Tickets prices for the day of meet are as follows: $9 for adults, $5 for students and seniors (general admission) and $15 for a VIP track-level pass.
