Kyle Massey completed his first season as an assistant coach for the University of Michigan wrestling program. An All-American heavyweight at Wisconsin, Massey will serve as the Wolverines' volunteer coach and work with the upperweight and heavyweight wrestlers.
Prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor, Massey spent the two seasons on the coaching staff at his alma mater, Wisconsin, serving one year as volunteer assistant coach (2009-10) and another as the Badgers' volunteer strength coach (2010-11). He worked closely with heavyweight Eric Bugenhagen, who twice qualified for the NCAA Championships after spending his first three seasons at 184 pounds.
During his collegiate career at Wisconsin (2006-09), Massey established himself as one of the country's top heavyweight wrestlers. He became the fifth heavyweight All-American in Badger history by claiming eighth place at the 2008 NCAA Championships. A three-time NCAA qualifier, Massey compiled an 84-32 career record, including a 30-10 mark in his junior season, and was selected to the 2008 NWCA All-Star Classic.
A native of Champlin, Minn., Massey received his bachelor's degree in life science communications from the University Wisconsin in 2009.
