ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling team released its 2013-14 schedule today (Friday, June 28), consisting of a challenging 15-dual-meet slate and two major regular-season tournaments. The Wolverines will face nine opponents that earned top-20 finishes at last season's NCAA Championships, including three NCAA top-five teams.
Michigan will remain in Washtenaw County for the bulk of the first semester, informally opening the season with the annual Maize & Blue Intrasquad on Sunday, Nov. 3, at Cliff Keen Arena before facing Drexel and Kent State in the EMU Duals on Saturday, Nov. 16, in Ypsilanti, Mich.
The Wolverines will host eight regular-season home contests at Keen Arena, including early non-conference duals against Oregon State (Nov. 17), Stanford (Nov. 24), Central Michigan (Dec. 15) and Maryland (Jan. 15).
U-M will return to both the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 6-7) and Midlands Championships (Dec. 29-30) this season. The Wolverines earned top-12 finishes at both prestigious tournaments last season.
Michigan's Big Ten dual schedule opens at home against Purdue (Jan. 10) and features additional home contests against Minnesota (Jan. 19), Michigan State (Jan. 24) and two-time defending NCAA champion Penn State (Feb. 2). In all, five of U-M's eight conference dual opponents earned top-10 NCAA finishes in 2012-13.
The Wolverines will close out the regular season with three straight road duals, including a non-conference slate at Pittsburgh on Saturday, Feb. 15, before beginning preparations for the postseason tournaments. The Big Ten Championships are slated for March 8-9 at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, Wis., while the NCAA Championships will be held March 20-22 at the Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla.
