ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling team released its 2014-15 schedule today (Monday, July 21), consisting of a challenging 14-dual-meet slate and two major regular-season tournaments. The Wolverines will face seven opponents that earned top-20 finishes at last season's NCAA Championships, including four NCAA top-five teams.
Michigan will remain in state for the bulk of the first semester, hosting the annual Maize & Blue Intrasquad on Sunday, Nov. 9, at Cliff Keen Arena before facing Ohio University and Edinboro in the EMU Duals on Saturday, Nov. 15, and rival Central Michigan on Tuesday, Nov. 25, in Mount Pleasant, Mich.
The Wolverines will turn over the calendar year with back-to-back tournament appearances. U-M will make its 32nd consecutive trip to the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational (Dec. 5-6) and will return to the Southern Scuffle (Jan. 1-2) after a three-year hiatus. Michigan took fifth place at the Las Vegas event last season and claimed fourth in its most recent Southern Scuffle appearance in 2010.
Michigan's Big Ten dual schedule opens on the road at Minnesota (Jan. 9) and features home contests against Ohio State (Jan. 18), Wisconsin (Jan. 23), Penn State (Jan. 30) and Nebraska (Feb. 6). In all, five of U-M's eight conference dual opponents earned top-15 NCAA finishes in 2013-14.
The Wolverines will close out the regular season with two non-conference home duals, hosting Pittsburgh (Feb. 20) and Duke (Feb. 21), before beginning preparations for the postseason tournaments. The Big Ten Championships are slated for March 7-8 at Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, while the NCAA Championships will be held March 19-21 at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Mo.
Season ticket information will be announced at a later date.
