ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan wrestling program will host a free wrestling clinic on Sunday, Nov. 17, from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. The clinic, the second of the 2013-14 season, is open to all ages and skill levels and will feature technique instruction from former Wolverine greats Ryan Churella and Eric Tannenbaum, as well as members of the U-M team. No registration is necessary, and video cameras will be permitted.
As a Wolverine wrestler, Churella (2003-06) was a three-time NCAA All-American and just the eighth Wolverine in program history to win three Big Ten Conference titles, at 149 and 165 pounds. In his final season at Michigan, Churella posted a near-perfect 29-1 record and advanced to the 165-pound final at the NCAA Championships. His 117-18 career record places him seventh in the U-M record book for career winning percentage (.867) and 18th in career wins. He also ranks ninth among the all-time pin leaders with 35 career falls.
Tannenbaum (2005-08) was a four-time NCAA All-American -- at 149 (2005, '06) and 165 pounds (2007, '08) -- earning national finishes of sixth, fourth (twice) and second. He captured Big Ten titles as a freshman and senior and twice won the Cliff Keen Las Vegas Invitational title. Tannenbaum posted a 143-21 career record to rank fifth among Michigan's all-time winningest wrestlers. He is currently in his second year of orthopedic surgery residency at the University of Michigan Health System.
Following the clinic, the Wolverines will square off against Oregon State at 2 p.m. at Cliff Keen Arena. All clinic participants will receive free admission to the meet and a food voucher. Accompanying parents and coaches will receive a $1 discounted admission rate for the dual.
