The Team Behind M Cross Country: Volunteer Assistant Dusty Lopez
Dusty Lopez is in his third year as a volunteer assistant coach with the University of Michigan men's cross country team.
Most recently during the 2013 season, he helped lead the Wolverines to their best season in over a decade, as they finished runner up in the Big Ten and clinched the NCAA Great Lakes Region team title. In U-M's third consecutive team appearance at the NCAA Championships, the Maize and Blue placed 21st. With his assistance, Mason Ferlic became Michigan's first All-American since 2004 (22nd place).
In his first year with the Wolverines in 2012, he helped guide U-M to its best Big Ten Conference and Great Lakes Regional finish since 2008, where it earned second place in both meets. He also helped the Maize and Blue secure a trip to the NCAA Championships as a team for the second straight season and finish 23rd overall. Fifth-year senior transfer Dan Lowry earned All-Big Ten first team honors and was Michigan's top performer in two of three championship meets.
