NEW ORLEANS, La. -- The 2011 University of Michigan men's cross country squad earned U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division I All-Academic Team honors, the association announced Wednesday (Feb. 15).
Michigan was one of 147 Division I cross country teams to earn All-Academic status, recording a cumulative team grade-point average of 3.06 through the fall 2011 semester. Wisconsin, the 2011 NCAA cross country champion, was named the USTFCCCA NCAA Division I Men's Scholar Team of the Year.
To qualify as a USTFCCCA All-Academic Cross Country Team, the team must have had a cumulative team GPA of 3.00 or better and have started at least five runners at its respective NCAA regional championship.
Michigan, which finished third at the 2011 Big Ten Championships and NCAA Great Lakes Regional, returned to the national stage as a team for the first time since 2008. The Wolverines capped the season with a 20th-place finish at the NCAA Championships.
