BOULDER, Colo. -- Four freshmen harriers from the University of Michigan men's cross country/track and field team competed in the junior men's 8K race at the USA Cross Country Championships on Saturday, Feb. 15, at Flatirons Golf Course outside Boulder, Colo.
Making his second appearance at the USA Cross Country Championships, Will Burke (Edina, Minn./Edina) led the group of Wolverines across the finish line, placing eighth in a time of 26:05.
Sean McGorty of Stanford led right from the gun and won the race by a 42-second margin in a time of 24:44.
In the 8K race that featured four 2K loops, U-M's four runners got out conservatively and then began making moves in the second half of the race. By the 4K mark, Burke and Cody Snavely (Milford, Mich./Milford) moved through the pack into top-10 positions and battled to maintain those spots. Snavely followed Burke closely across the finish line to take 10th in a time of 26:16. Burke and Snavely each earned USATF All-America honors for their top-10 performances.
