Flanagan, Canada Win Silver at NACAC Cross Country Championships

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad and Tobago -- Freshman Ben Flanagan (Kitchener, Ontario./St. Mary's) of the University of Michigan men's track and field and cross country teams won silver at the North America, Central American & Caribbean (NACAC) Cross Country Championships on Saturday (Feb. 22), improving one spot from his appearance at last year's event.

His second-place effort helped Team Canada finish second in the junior men's 6K team standings with 28 points in Port of Spain, Trinidad.

Flanagan crossed the line second in a 6K time of 18:25.10, finishing behind Team USA's Sean McGorty, who recently won the USA Cross Country Championships on Feb. 15 in Boulder, Colo. The remaining Team Canada scorers finished fifth, eighth, 13th and 14th to help Canada claim the team silver.

Flanagan finished runner-up at the Canadian National Cross Country Championships on Nov. 30, 2013, to qualify for his second straight trip to the NACAC Championships.
