ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The defending NCAA Great Lakes Region champion University of Michigan men's cross country team announced its nine-event schedule for the 2014 season today (Thursday, June 19). The season will get underway on Friday, Aug. 29, when the Wolverines host the annual Michigan Open at Hudson Mills Metropark in Dexter, Mich.
Admission for the Michigan Open is free, however, a $7 daily vehicle entry fee is changed at Hudson Mills Metropark.
Following the season opener, Michigan will compete in two new events, including the Kentucky Invitational in Lexington, Ky. (Sept. 13) and the Lou Onesty Invitational in Charlottesville, Va. (Sept. 26).
For the second straight year, U-M will participate in the Blue and Gold Invitational in South Bend, Ind. (Oct. 3), before traveling to Madison, Wis., for the Wisconsin adidas Invitational (Oct. 17) -- a meet Michigan has compete in since it was established in 2009.
The championship portion of the season will kick off with the Big Ten Championship, which will be hosted by the University of Iowa on Nov. 2 in Iowa City, Iowa.
Prior to finishing its championship season, the Maize and Blue will participate in the Hoosier Invitational on Nov. 7, in Bloomington, Ind.
Michigan will make its second appearance of the season at Wisconsin's Thomas Zimmer Championship Cross Country Course on Nov. 14, as the Badgers will play host to the NCAA Great Lakes Regional for the third consecutive season. Michigan, which has qualified for the NCAA Championships as a team in each of the last three years, will conclude the season at the national championships in Terre Haute, Ind. on Nov. 22.
