April 30, 2012
Senior Michelle McMahon, a Defensive Specialist on the University of Michigan volleyball team from Grand Rapids, Mich. (Forest Hills Northern HS), is the recipient of the 2012 Raeder's Raiders Spirit Award presented by the Letterwinners M Club.
"Michelle consistently placed the team ahead of herself," said Wolverine Volleyball Coach Mark Rosen, who nominated McMahon for the award. "She has always been a positive influence on the team and has been dedicated to help making this program better."

McMahon is the second U-M volleyball player to receive the award. Wolverine volleyball student-athlete Candace Gay won the inaugural award in 2006.
The Raeder's Raiders Spirit Award was established in 2006 to recognize a varsity athlete for character, teamwork, dedication, perseverance and intensity of athletic performance while coming off the bench. It's named after J. Paul Raeder, a member of the Michigan football team from 1957 to 1961, and a number of his teammates known collectively as "Raeder's Raiders." The award is sponsored by the Raeder Family and the Letterwinners M Club.
