Mark Uitermarkt is in his seventh season as an administrative assistant with the Michigan women's basketball program. Uitermarkt brings eight years of experience as a women's basketball coach and 15 years of experience working with women's basketball programs throughout the Midwest.
Uitermarkt assists with the day-to-day operations of the program, including coordinating film exchange, arranging team meals and assisting with on-campus recruiting. He also assists with the administration and coordination of Michigan's summer basketball camps. Uitermarkt, who plans all pre- and post-game functions and handles team video, is responsible for developing and maintaining the alumnae network and website. He also works closely with U-M's media relations and marketing/promotions departments.
Prior to his arrival in Ann Arbor, Uitermarkt served one season as first assistant women's basketball coach at NCAA Division III Central College (Pella, Iowa) in 2003-04. He spent the previous two years (2001-03) at Timothy Christian High School in Elmhurst, Ill., where he worked as a physical education and health teacher while serving as the head junior varsity and assistant varsity girl's basketball coach. Uitermarkt helped guide Timothy Christian to a pair of Illinois Class A Sweet Sixteen berths as well an appearance in the Elite Eight in 2001-02.
Uitermarkt served two seasons as an administrative assistant at Southwest Missouri State (now Missouri State) from 1999-2001 during which the Lady Bears advanced to the NCAA Final Four. While at Southwest Missouri State, Uitermarkt handled similar duties related to the day-to-day operations within the women's basketball program, and helped the Lady Bears post a 52-15 record and make two NCAA Tournament appearances.
Uitermarkt's previous coaching experience includes a head junior varsity and assistant varsity position at Westminster Christian Academy in St. Louis, Mo., (1996-99) and a first assistant post at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Mich., (1994-96) where he helped the Knights earn a pair of Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association championships and post back-to-back 20-win seasons.
A native of Pella, Iowa, Uitermarkt earned his bachelor's degree from Calvin College in 1996, majoring in U.S. history with a minor in physical education.
Uitermarkt was married to Terri Jan on May 10, 2008. The couple resides in Ann Arbor.
