The Wolverines move to 6-13 all-time against teams from the Southeastern Conference (SEC). This was U-M's first game against a team from the SEC since defeating Vanderbilt during the 2008-09 season.
Michigan moves to 24-15 all-time in season openers and this was the first time since 2008 season that U-M opened the season on the road. The Wolverines are a perfect 5-0 in season openers under head coach Kevin Borseth.
Tonight's matchup was the first one ever against the Florida Gators. U-M now holds a 97-60 all-time record when facing an opponent for the first time. Upcoming first time opponents this year include: Florida Atlantic (Nov. 14), Utah (Nov. 17) and Prarie View A&M (Nov. 24).
U-M extended its three-point shooting streak to 159 consecutive games. The last time Michigan did not hit a three-pointer was during the 2005-2006 season.
Courtney Boylan led the Wolverines with a career-high 21 points on 8-of-13 (62 percent) shooting, including 5-of-6 (83 percent) from the free throw line.
Jenny Ryan and Boylan led U-M with seven rebounds apiece. Michigan won the rebounding battle, 42-36. Michigan was 16-3 last season when keeping the rebounding margin to 10 or less.
Rachel Sheffer matched a career high with four assists. For the game, the Wolverines dished out 14 assists, leading to 27 field goals made. Sheffer added 13 points and four rebounds in the win.
Michigan shot 49 percent (27-of-55) from the field -- 50 percent (14-of-28) in the first half and 48 percent (13-of-27) in the second half. U-M shot 42 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range -- 33 percent (2-of-6) in the first half and 50 percent (3-of-6) in the second half.
Senior Carmen Reynolds posted 15 points in tonight's game. Reynolds now needs just 92 points for 1,000 career points.
Nicole Elmblad made her first career collegiate start in tonight's game with six points and six rebounds. Elmblad hails from St. Ignace, Mich., where she played for LaSalle High School.
Today was junior forward Sam Arnold's birthday, and she posted two points. The day was noted because she wears jersey number 11 with the date marking 11/11/11.
