ST. THOMAS, U.S. Virgin Islands -- The University of Michigan women's basketball team won the Reef Division at the Paradise Jam, defeating Marquette, 71-51, on Saturday night (Nov. 26) at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center.

The Wolverines finished the tournament 3-0 and extended their unbeaten slate to 7-0, tying the program's best start. The U-M defense forced 23 turnovers, adding 13 steals that led to 27 points.

Courtney Boylan (Chaska, Minn./Chaska) was named the division MVP and received all-tournament honors with Jenny Ryan (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic Central). Boylan finished with a game-high 16 points (6-of-10) and three rebounds. Ryan recorded a double-double with 13 points (5-10) and a game-high 10 rebounds while leading the team in assists with five.

The Wolverines picked up where they left off the night before, opening the game on an 8-0 run. After Marquette put their first points on the board, U-M forced three turnovers and ignited a 15-5 run from a Boylan tip-in to increase the lead to 23-7 (11:11). The Wolverines went scoreless for nearly two minutes, allowing the Golden Eagles to close the gap on a 12-4 run. With 6:13 left and Michigan up 27-19, Carmen Reynolds (Hilliard, Ohio/Davidson) notched five straight points as U-M closed out the break on a 14-7 run, with Boylan knocking in a lay-up as time expired for the Wolverines, who led at the half, 41-26.

In the second half, Michigan maintained a double-digit lead, holding at least a 20-point advantage several times through the half after posting the largest lead of the night, 56-30 (12:29). U-M led 63-43 (5:36) and 67-47 (2:44) on the way to victory.

The Wolverines shot 46 percent from the floor and 39 percent from behind the arc while scoring 34 points in the paint. The Maize and Blue reserves chipped in 25 points, behind Sam Arnold's (Medinah, Ill./Lake Park) season high of nine points.

For Marquette, three players finished in double figures as Sarina Simmons (14), Arlesia Morse (11) and Christina Bigica (11) led the Golden Eagles, who shot a 46 percent overall.

The Wolverines continue their road trip with a jaunt to Maryland on Wednesday (Nov. 30) at 7 p.m.
