With tonight's win, the Wolverines move to 1-0 against Wake Forest and 4-0 in Big Ten/ACC Challenge games. U-M previously defeated Miami (Fla.), North Carolina State, and Virginia Tech in Challenge action. Michigan is the only Big Ten school to have a perfect record in the Challenge. In addition, the Maize and Blue moves to 9-9 all-time against teams from the ACC.
U-M's 91 points are the most Michigan has scored in a Challenge game. U-M scored 71 against Virginia Tech last season, 63 against N.C. Sate two seasons ago, and put up 65 points in the inaugural Challenge game against Miami (Fla.).
U-M's 91 points are the most points Michigan has scored in the Borseth era. Earlier this season, Michigan posted 88 points in the season opener against Alcorn State on Nov. 12.
Michigan improves to 3-0 on the season and 41-13 under Kevin Borseth when holding opponents to less than 60 points. Earlier this season, U-M held Indiana State (Nov. 22) and Buffalo (Nov. 26) under the 60-point mark; both efforts came in wins.
Michigan extends its three-point shooting streak to 135 consecutive games with 12 three-pointers tonight. U-M's 12 three-pointers also tie a season high; the Wolverines also had 12 against Xavier on Nov. 15. The last time U-M failed to hit at least one three-pointer was during the 2005-06 season.
With the start tonight, Veronica Hicks has now played and started in 64 consecutive games. The last game she missed and did not start in was at Southern California on Dec. 2, 2008.
U-M shot 66 percent (33-of-50) from the field in the game, the highest percentage of the season. The last time the Wolverines shot better than 60 percent for a game was March 24, 2008, against Virginia Commonwealth. U-M shot 62.2 percent on 23-of-37 shooting from the floor in that victory.
U-M shot 64 percent (16-of-25) from the field in the first half, the highest percentage of the season. The Wolverines last shot more than 60 percent in the first half against Xavier on Nov. 15 when they shot 60.7 percent (17-of-28). Last season, Michigan never shot at a 60-percent in the first half.
The Wolverines' 22 assists match a season high; U-M also had 22 assists against Alcorn State on Nov. 12 and Xavier on Nov. 15. Michigan's 22 assists rank 10th on the single-game list.
Michigan had four players in double figures in points tonight, with Carmen Reynolds leading the way with 25 (Rachel Sheffer - 15, Veronica Hicks - 13, Nya Jordan - 11). U-M also had four players with double figures against Alcorn State on Nov. 12 and five players in double figures against Xavier on Nov. 15).
Carmen Reynolds 25 points mark the seventh time in her career scoring 20 or more points in a game. She had five games of 20 or more points in 2009-2010.
Rachel Sheffer posted a career high in points with 15, eclipsing her previous record of 12 points against Stephen F. Austin on Nov. 27, 2009.
For the second consecutive game and the fifth time this season, U-M was out-rebounded by a margin is 38-32. U-M has only had one player reach double figures in rebounds this season; Sam Arnold had 11 in U-M's win over Buffalo (Nov. 26).
Michigan head coach Kevin Borseth is five wins away from his 500th NCAA victory, which includes Division I and Division II wins. Borseth has also coached at the community college level.
