• With tonight's win, the Wolverines move to 2-0 against Virginia Tech and 3-0 in Big Ten/ACC Challenge games. U-M has previously defeated Miami (Fla.) and North Carolina State in Challenge action. In addition, Michigan moves to 7-8 all-time against teams from the ACC.

• U-M's 71 points are the most Michigan has scored in a Challenge game. U-M scored 63 against N.C. Sate last season and put up 65 points in the inaugural Challenge game against Miami (Fla.).

• Michigan held Virginia Tech to its lowest point total this season with 51 points. The Hokies were held to 43 points twice last season. The fewest points that the Hokies have scored at home is 38 in a 90-38 loss to a third-ranked Connecticut team during the 2000-01 season.

• Additionally, Michigan snapped a 13-game "true road game" losing streak. Prior to tonight's game, the last true road win the Wolverines had was a 61-51 win over Southern Miss on Nov. 29, 2008.

• For the third game this season, there is an NBA connection. Former Duke standout JJ Redick's little sister Abby is a freshman on the Virginia Tech team. Older brother JJ is now a member of the Orlando Magic of the NBA. The Wolverines have also taken on Antoinette (Stephen F. Austin) and Carolyn Davis (Kansas), daughters of former NBA player Antonio Davis.

• Freshman guard Dayeesha Hollins posted a career-high eight assists. It is the most assists by a Wolverine this season.

Krista Phillips scored 12 points for her second consecutive game in double figures. She also pulled down a season-best eight rebounds. She now has 498 career rebounds and is two shy of becoming the 17th player in program history with 500 rebounds.

• Michigan shot 50.9 percent for the game, marking the seventh consecutive game shooting over 40 percent. It is U-M's second-best shooting night this season; U-M shot 57.4 percent against Southern Miss (Nov. 19).

• Junior guard Veronica Hicks extended her double-figure scoring streak to seven consecutive games with 19 points. It is her 16th career game in double figures.

• Michigan had at least four players in double figures for the third consecutive game and the fourth time this season. U-M had a season-best five players in double figures in a win over Southern Miss on Nov. 19.
