ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- Junior Nicole Elmblad (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) of the University of Michigan women's basketball team was named to the Capital One Academic All-District first team on Thursday (Jan. 30). With her selection to the first team, she is now eligible for the national ballot.
A Big Ten Distinguished Scholar in 2012 and a biopsychology, cognition and neuroscience major, Elmblad has started all 21 games for the Wolverines this season. She has recorded six double-doubles and is averaging 12.4 points and 8.1 rebounds in 36.5 minutes per game. Elmblad leads the Big Ten and U-M in minutes played, while pacing the Wolverines in steals (30) and ranking second in rebounds (170) and assists (68). The lefty is also Michigan's captain and has set career highs in every statistical category this season.
For her career, Elmblad has appeared in 85 games, including 68 as a starter. She has scored 477 points and grabbed 407 rebounds, while dishing out 146 assists.
Elmblad is the third Wolverine to earn Academic All-District honors, joining LeeAnn Bies (2003) and Jenny Ryan (2012, '13).
Michigan returns to Crisler Center on Saturday (Feb. 1) to host Minnesota at noon as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day. Girls in eighth grade and under are invited for a pregame program involving the Wolverines and numerous other women's varsity programs at the William Davidson Player Development Center.
