ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's basketball incoming freshman Madison Ristovski (Gross Pointe Woods, Mich./University Liggett) was recently named to the 2012 PARADE All-America Girls Basketball Team.
Ristovski's selection to the All-America team comes after she was awarded Michigan's Miss Basketball and ESPNHS Gatorade Girls Basketball Player of the Year for the state. Michigan's Miss Basketball is an annual award given to the best female high school player in the state and presented by the Basketball Coaches Association in conjunction with the Detroit Free Press.
During the regular season, Ristovski averaged 26 points and six rebounds. She led her team (University Liggett - Gross Pointe) to the state finals, scoring 42 points to cap her high school career.
For the upcoming season, Ristovski will join U-M's roster that features the 2009 Michigan Miss Basketball Jenny Ryan (Saginaw, Mich./Nouvel Catholic) and several finalists for the award. The players include last year's team MVP Rachel Sheffer (Watervliet, Mich./Watervliet), Nicole Elmblad (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle) and incoming classmate Kelsey Mitchell (Inkster, Mich./Inkster).
Ristovski is the fourth player to commit to play at the Michigan after winning the Miss Basketball award, following Tabitha Pool (2000), Krista Clement (2003) and Jenny Ryan (2009).
