Nice and Monaco -- by Val Driscoll
This morning we took a 20-minute bus ride to Monaco. On our way out of Nice, we stopped to take a picture that was overlooking the Mediterranean Sea, which set the scene for what was to come next at Monaco.
Monaco was the most beautiful place I have ever seen in my life. The city is high up and overlooks crystal clear water, boats and amazing buildings. I can't even put into words how amazing the view was. The area itself is very small -- about a mile-- and some of us were able to see everything that it had to offer.
We were greeted with the changing of the guards at the Palace of Monaco, which happens every day at 11:55 a.m. After that, we all split into different groups to start exploring. We took different paths and visited all the little stores and took so many pictures of the breathtaking view.
After that, we started our trip by bus to Lake Como to start the second half of our wonderful European journey! Every day and every view just seems to get better and better. I can't wait to see Italy!
Lake Como -- by Sarah VanMetre
We once again found ourselves traveling for a large chunk of the day, this time by bus. It took about four and a half hours to get to Lake Como. The ride first started out with us going up and down various mountains along the coast. We kept going through numerous tunnels as we traversed the mountains.
We crossed into Italy not long into the trip and then it became more of a straight and not so windy drive. We had to stop for exactly 45 minutes for the bus driver to rest, as the Italian laws are very strict for how long a bus driver can drive continuously. It was a great chance to get off the bus and stretch our legs while getting a quick snack.
We arrived in Lake Como a little past 7 p.m. and headed to dinner right after that. We had pasta, followed by a choice of swordfish or steak. It was one of the best meals ever.
Everyone went for gelato following the meal and we are getting ready for a boat cruise and our second game tomorrow (Saturday, Aug. 24). Hope everyone is enjoying following along on our journey!
