NEW ROCHELLE, N.Y. -- Junior guard/forward Nicole Elmblad (St. Ignace, Mich./La Salle) was named team captain for the 2013-14 season prior to the University of Michigan women's basketball team's season-opening game against Bowling Green on Friday afternoon (Nov. 8).
Elmblad started 32 of 33 contests a season ago, averaging 4.3 points and 5.4 rebounds in 29.0 minutes per game. She scored a career-best 14 points to go with 10 rebounds against Indiana in the Big Ten Tournament (March 7, 2013) and recorded at least six rebounds 13 times.
She has appeared in 64 career games, starting 47 of them in her two-year career. She was named Academic All-Big Ten as a sophomore, as well as picking up Big Ten Distinguished Scholar honors for having at least a 3.7 GPA.
Michigan kicks off the season in the Iona Tournament on Friday afternoon, playing Bowling Green at 4 p.m. U-M will wrap up the weekend against either Arizona or Iona on Saturday (Nov. 9) at 1 or 3:30 p.m.
