ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's basketball head coach Kim Barnes Arico announced the signing of 6-4 center Terra Stapleton (Proctorville, Ohio/Fairland) to a National Letter of Intent on Wednesday afternoon (Nov. 19). Stapleton will join the Wolverines for the 2014-15 academic year.
Stapleton is the fifth early signee for the Wolverines since the signing period began last week, joining Katelynn Flaherty (Point Pleasant, N.J./Point Pleasant Beach), Jillian Dunston (Germantown, Md./Academy of the Holy Cross), Emoni Jackson (Pasadena, Calif./Long Beach Polytechnic) and Maria Backman (Bronx, N.Y./Cardinal Spellman).
"We are excited to add a player like Terra to our already great class," Barnes Arico said. "The one thing we were missing with this group was some size, and Terra will bring that to our team. She will be able to give us a presence on the low block both offensively and defensively while also helping us on the glass. She will be a wonderful addition to our team."
In two years at Fairland, Stapleton has averaged 18.1 points, 11.9 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game for her career. Following a junior season that saw her average 17.4 points per game, Stapleton was named the 2012-13 Associated Press All-Ohio Division III first team. As a sophomore, the 6-4 center was named the Division III Player of the Year. A three-star recruit, Stapleton plays AAU for West Virginia Thunder.
Michigan is back in action tomorrow (Wednesday, Nov. 20), hosting Pittsburgh at Crisler Center. Tip is scheduled for 7 p.m.
