ROSEMONT, Ill. -- After recording her fourth double-double of the season in the University of Michigan women's basketball team's win over Southern (Dec. 20), junior forward Cyesha Goree (Grand Rapids, Mich./Wyoming Park) was named to the Big Ten Player of the Week honor roll on Monday (Dec. 23).
It was the first time Goree has been honored by the Big Ten in her career, and she is the second Wolverine to be named to the honor roll this season, joining junior Nicole Elmblad (St. Ignace, Mich./LaSalle). Goree went for 16 points on 7-for-10 shooting and grabbed a career-best 18 rebounds in Michigan's 83-59 win over Southern to send the Wolverines into their holiday break. The 18 rebounds was the second-best total by a Big Ten player this season and tied for the ninth-best performance by a Wolverine in school history.
Goree, who is averaging 13.3 points per game, currently leads the Big Ten in field goal percentage (.640) and is seventh in rebounding at 8.3 boards per contest.
The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday (Dec. 28), hosting Alcorn State to wrap up a four-game homestand at Crisler. Tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.
