Field Hockey's Coach Belassi White Enjoys Return to Competition
Weekly #12: U-M to Meet Up with No. 9 UNH in NCAA First Round
Lucia Belassi White is in her fifth season as an assistant coach for the Michigan field hockey team. An alumna of the U-M program (2004-07), she was highly accomplished on and off the field earning NFHCA All-America distinction, Big Ten Conference Co-Player of the Year in 2007 and NFHCA National Academic Squad recognition.
Belassi White played 91 career games as a for the Wolverines, scoring 33 goals and 19 assists for 85 points. She led U-M in goals and points as a junior and a senior, earning NFHCA All-West Region first team and Big Ten first team both years. She was a team co-captain and an NFHCA first team All-American as a senior in 2007.
She was a part of three teams that reached the NCAA Tournament (2004, 2005, 2007), advancing to the quarterfinal round each time. Belassi White helped U-M capture Big Ten regular-season titles in 2004 (tie) and 2007, as well as Big Ten Tournament crowns in 2004 and 2005.
She was on the Academic All-Big Ten Team each of the three years that she was eligible (2005, 2006, 2007). She received a U-M Athletic Academic Achievement Award in each of her four years.
Following her Michigan career, Belassi White lived in Grand Rapids, Mich., where she worked for Fair Housing Center of West Michigan. She also spent time helping the sport of field hockey grow as a volunteer coach in the area.
Originally from Paysandu, Uruguay, Belassi White graduated from U-M in 2008 with a degree in linguistics. She received a master's degree in sports management from Eastern Michigan University in 2014. She is married to former Wolverine wrestler Casey White (2006-07).
