ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan field hockey team announced its 2013 schedule today (Wednesday, May 8), consisting of a challenging 19-game regular-season slate. The Wolverines will face six opponents coming off a 2012 NCAA Tournament bid, including two teams which advanced to the Final Four.
Michigan starts the 2013 campaign with an exhibition contest against intrastate rival Michigan State on Saturday, Aug. 24, in East Lansing, Mich., before officially opening the season with back-to-back weekend road trips. The Wolverines will host eight regular-season home contests at Phyllis Ocker Field, kicking off the home slate against Louisville and UC Davis on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 14-15. Admission to all home field hockey games is free.
Michigan's six-game Big Ten schedule opens at home against Iowa (Oct. 5) and features additional home contests against Penn State (Nov. 1) and Indiana (Nov. 3) at Ocker Field. The Hawkeyes and Nittany Lions were both NCAA Tournament teams last season. U-M will hit the road for league games at Northwestern (Sept. 29), Michigan State (Oct. 11) and Ohio State (Oct. 20).
The Wolverines will travel to Columbus, Ohio, for the Big Ten Tournament (Nov. 7-10). The NCAA Tournament is scheduled to begin on Nov. 15-17, with first- and second-round matchups, while the Final Four is slated for Friday and Sunday, Nov. 22-24, in Norfolk, Va.
Michigan concluded the 2012 campaign with its 11th NCAA Tournament appearance in 14 seasons. The Wolverines shared second place in the Big Ten regular-season standings and advanced to the Big Ten Tournament final for the 11th time in program history.
