ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- The University of Michigan field hockey program announced its 2014 schedule today (Tuesday, May 20), featuring a challenging 17-game regular-season slate, including 10 home games in its new state-of-the-art field hockey complex. The Wolverines will also host the 2014 Big Ten Tournament Nov. 6-9 at Phyllis Ocker Field.
Michigan will face six teams coming off an NCAA Tournament bid a year ago, including a pair which advanced to the Final Four. U-M will officially kick off the 2014 campaign at the annual ACC/Big Ten Challenge (Aug. 30-31), squaring off against perennial powers North Carolina and Wake Forest.
The Wolverines will host William & Mary for their home opener on Saturday, Sept. 6, the first in a four-game homestand that also features U-M's first night game under new lights at Ocker Field, slated for Friday, Sept. 12, against Providence.
Michigan's eight-game Big Ten schedule opens on the road against Penn State (Sept. 19) and features a quartet of home contests -- against new conference members Maryland (Sept. 26) and Rutgers (Sept. 28), Northwestern (Oct. 17) and Michigan State (Oct. 24). The Wolverines will close the regular season against Ohio State on Nov. 2 in Columbus, Ohio.
U-M will play host to the conference tournament for just the third time in the 21-year history of the event. The Wolverines have advanced to the championship final 11 times since 1997, capturing the tournament crown in 1999, 2000, 2004, 2005 and 2010.
Summer Camps: The Michigan field hockey team will hold three camps this summer at Michigan Stadium: one commuter camp (June 22-24) and two overnight camps (June 25-28, June 29-July 2). To register and find out more information, visit the team's camps page.
