COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. -- University of Michigan field hockey senior Liesl Morris (Lafayette, N.J./The Taft School) and junior Ainsley McCallister (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron) will join U-M volunteer assistant coach Maren Langford on the Midwest High Performance team in the 2012 U.S. Women's National Championships, to be held June 1-8 on the campus of the University of Maryland in College Park, Md.
Morris, McCallister and Langford are in one of eight regions that will play five matches, with the finals on June 8. Northwestern head coach and former U-M assistant Tracey Fuchs will coach the Midwest team. The players also are vying for a spot on the National Squad roster and the opportunity to represent the United States on an international stage.
Morris will be entering her senior season for the Wolverines in 2012. She has made 32 career appearances for the Maize and Blue, including 15 in the 2011 campaign. McCallister started in all 22 games for the Wolverines at midfield her sophomore season. She was third on the team with eight assists to go with her pair of goals and 12 points. Her goals came in back-to-back days against Northwestern and Yale. She also had an assist in the Big Ten Tournament championship game against Penn State and assisted on the first goal in the Big Ten regular-season clinching win over Indiana.
Langford has helped out the Wolverines as a volunteer assistant the past two years. Langford currently is on the U.S. Women's National team and is married to Michigan assistant field hockey coach Ryan Langford.
Admission for all the matches is free and open to the public. All matches will be held at the Field Hockey and Lacrosse Complex on the Maryland campus. The competition schedule and more information can be found at usafieldhockey.com.
