VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -- Senior/junior Ainsley McCallister (Ann Arbor, Mich./Huron HS) of the University of Michigan field hockey team was named to the U.S. roster for the prestigious Junior World Cup, announced today (June 28) by U.S. Under-21 head coach Steve Jennings. Held every four years, the Junior World Cup is slated for July 27-Aug. 4 in in Monchengladbach, Germany. It represents the top international event for elite field hockey athletes under the age of 21.

The selection process for the Junior World Cup team spanned over four events, including the Women's National Championship, U-21 Women's National Championship, Futures Elite Championship and National Futures Championship. From the four events, 34-players were selected to attend Junior National Camp. The final squad was trimmed to 18-players plus three replacement athletes.

The Junior World Cup features a 16-team field split into four pools. Placed in Pool A, Team USA will open play against Korea (July 27) before facing the Netherlands (July 28) and Ghana (July 30). Following pool play, teams will either move into a placement round for the bottom eight finishers or advance into the championship quarterfinals. The tournament will conclude with bronze- and gold-medal matches on Aug. 4.

The U.S. will depart on July 17 for the Netherlands for final preparations before the tournament commences in Germany. The U.S. will play against the Dutch team twice before heading over the border to Monchengladbach. Once in Germany, the U.S. will have a friendly match against New Zealand before opening pool play on July 27.

McCallister redshirted the 2012 season, appearing in just two games while missing the bulk due to injury. She started all 22 Wolverine games at midfield during the previous season, and owns three career goals and eight assists. She will serve as one of three team captains in 2013, repeating the distinction from last season.

She will be the eighth Wolverine representative to compete at the Junior World Cup and the first to do so since Lori Hillman played with Team USA at the 2005 event.
