PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- For the second straight week, University of Michigan field hockey freshman Emy Guttman (Ann Arbor, Mich./Pioneer) has been named the Big Ten Conference's Freshman of the Week, the conference office announced today (Tuesday, Sept. 13).
Guttman recorded her first career hat trick in the 5-0 win over Bucknell on Sunday afternoon (Sept. 11). She scored Michigan's first two goals just 1:39 apart in the win over the Bison. Guttman tipped in a pass from sophomore Michelle Roberts (Pocomoke, Md./Pocomoke) at 10:15, then scored off a rebound from a save by the Bucknell goalkeeper at 11:54. Guttman completed the hat trick at 62:27 on a pass from sophomore Mallory Albini (Escondido, Calif./San Pasqual).
Guttman leads the Maize and Blue with five goals and 11 points. She also is tied for fifth in the Big Ten in both categories.
She earned Freshman of the Week honors Sept. 6 after scoring the game-tying goal in an overtime win over Temple (Sept. 3) and scoring the Maize and Blue's lone goal in the game against then-No. 1 Maryland (Sept. 4).
Michigan returns to action this Saturday morning (Sept. 17) against Ball State. The game starts at 10 a.m. at Ocker Field.
