PARK RIDGE, Ill. -- Senior captain Rachael Mack (Bromsgrove, England/Bromsgrove School) of the University of Michigan field hockey team was named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week after posting two goals and three assists in the Wolverines' first home weekend of the season, the league office announced Tuesday (Sept. 17). The weekly honor is the seventh for Mack in her career.
Mack netted the lone goal against No. 16 Louisville last Saturday (Sept. 14), redirecting a shot off a first-half corner opportunity to claim her 12th career game-winner. She also had a hand in four of U-M's six goals in a 6-1 rout over UC Davis last Sunday (Sept. 15), scoring a second-half tallying after registering a career-best three assists.
Mack has scored at least one goal in five of six games this season, leading U-M with six goals and 15 points.
It is her third Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week accolade. She also boasted four conference Freshman of the Week honors in 2010.
Mack and the Wolverines will return to the road this weekend, heading to Williamsburg, Va., to face William & Mary at 7 p.m. on Friday (Sept. 20) before wrapping up the trip at 1 p.m. on Sunday (Sept. 22) against Maryland in College Park, Md.
