JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The University of Michigan women's golf team wrapped up the regular season on Tuesday (April 9), placing 13th at the Marsh Landing Invitational. U-M shot rounds of 305, 296 and 305 for a 906 over the two-day event held at Marsh Landing Country Club. Purdue won the event with a seven-under 857.
On Monday (April 8), freshman Catherine Peters (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence) shot U-M's best opening-round score, a two-over 74, which included five birdies. She improved in round two, carding an even-par 72, which sophomore teammate Linda Luo (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch) matched after shooting 76 in round one. Peters had 14 pars over the second 18 to go along with two birdies and two bogeys, while Luo evened out three bogeys with a trio of birdies. Meanwhile, sophomore Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson) shot two over on her second 18 after opening with a 77. Behind those performances, U-M went into the final day in a tie for 10th.
Luo was the top Wolverine today, earning four birdies to finish two over and tied for 26th overall individually. Grogan shot a final-round 78 to slip into a tie for 59th at day's end, while Peters fell to tied for 63rd after a final-round 84.
Rounds of 78, 80 and 77 (235) resulted in junior Chelsea Pezzola (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal Prep) finishing tied for 80th with classmate Alicia Weber (Northville, Mich./Northville), who went 78-80-77 over two days. Freshman individual Ella Pendy (Grosse Pointe, Mich./Grosse Pointe South) had her best round of the event today (74) and placed tied for 86th.
Up next for the Wolverines are the Big Ten Championships April 26-28 in French Lick, Ind.
