FRENCH LICK, Ind. -- Led by freshman Grace Choi's (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson HS) two-under 70, the University of Michigan women's golf team remains in 11th place after day two at the Big Ten Championships, shooting a 309 team score in the second round Saturday (April 26) at the French Lick Resort's Pete Dye course in French Lick, Ind.

Choi birdied two of her final three holes to climb into a tie for third, shooting one of just three rounds under par by any player in the tournament so far. Her six birdies through 36 holes lead the Wolverines, and the four she holed today helped her score nearly nine strokes below the tournament average round of 78.93.

Starting off the back nine, senior Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS) was even par through the first half of her round, but a few late bogeys caught up to the Wolverines, whose 626 team total through two days leaves U-M just six shots off a tie for seventh place.

Behind Choi, sophomore Catherine Peters (Clarence, N.Y./Clarence H.S.) matched her first-round score with a 79, giving her a 158 total and placing her in a tie for 37th, while senior Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) sits in a tie for 51st, just two strokes behind.

Junior Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) shot an 85, while Lee shot a 78 -- a 12-stroke improvement from yesterday (Friday, April 25) -- and the pair finished just two shots apart with day totals of 166 and 168, respectively, placing them in ties for 63rd and 65th place. Senior Chelsea Pezzola (Bradenton, Fla./Saint Stephens Episcopal Prep.) rounded out the scoring with a 172 total, placing her in 70th.

Michigan will tee off tomorrow morning (Sunday, April 27) at 9 a.m. to play the final 18 holes of the Big Ten Championships at the Pete Dye Course at the French Lick Resort.
