Final Round: Saturday, May 12 -- at NCAA Central Regional (Columbus, Ohio), 12:30 p.m.
COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Using a 77 from sophomore Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood HS) and 79s from sophomore Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS) and freshman Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS), the University of Michigan women's golf team tallied a 316 today (Friday, May 11) and remains 15th with a 631 total at the NCAA Central Regional held at Ohio State's Scarlet Course.
After a second-round 79 today, Lee continues to the lead the Wolverines as she is tied for 33rd with a 153 two-day total following her two-over 74 in Thursday's (May 10) opening round. Grogan is two shots behind as she is tied for 42nd at 155 (76-79).
Shimel posted U-M's top round of the day with her five-over 77 as she moved up 24 positions on the leaderboard after opening with an 84 in the first round. Beginning off the front nine, Shimel opened the day bogeying the first hole, however, she erased that on the third hole with the first of her four birdies on the round. In fact, she erased two additional bogeys on the front nine with birdies and made the turn even par.
Shimel ran into trouble to start the back nine as she found herself five over after the first four holes, before a birdie on the par-5 14th hole put her at four over with four to play. She closed the day with three pars and a bogey to give her the 77, putting her tied for 83rd at 161.
Other Wolverine scores after 36 holes include freshman Linda Luo (Bradenton, Fla./Lakewood Ranch HS) tied for 92nd at 162 (81-81) and senior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) tied for 116th at 169 (87-82).
The Wolverines conclude their regional play Saturday (May 12) as they will be looking to finish among to the top eight in order to advance to the NCAA Finals in Franklin, Tenn. U-M will begin its final round off the first tee at 12:30 p.m., paired with Notre Dame and Ole Miss.

Q U O T E S
Michigan Head Coach Cheryl Stacy
On the second day of NCAA Central Regional ... "The golf course is playing very tough. We are hanging in there, but we need pick up our short game. Yugene (Lee) and Lauren (Grogan) are playing well and it was great to see Alyssa (Shimel) play well today. We are just going to go out tomorrow and fight and battle through the golf course. We are going to try to make as many pars as we can and see what happens in the end."
