EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Playing in the second day of chilly and windy conditions, the University of Michigan women's golf team gathered four final round scores of 78 to post a 312 team tally and close the Mary Fossum Invitational with a sixth-place finish today (Sunday, Sept. 26) at Forest Akers West Course. Following rounds of 317 and 308 Saturday (Sept. 25), U-M closes the event with a 937 team total.

With one of U-M's final-round 78s, freshman Alyssa Shimel (Pemberville, Ohio/Eastwood) tied for 21st (233) to finish as the top Wolverine individual, marking the first time in her career she led the Maize and Blue at an event. Shimel posted an opening 80 in the gusty first round before rallying with a three-over 75 as wind died down, with 13 pars and two birdies highlighting the round.

Senior Min Yean Tan (Penang Island, Malaysia/Hills International College [Australia]) recovered from an opening 83 to post a Wolverine individual-round tournament-best 74 in the second round. She closed with 78 today to finish with a 235 and tie for 28th.

Sophomore Caramia Sitompul (Jakarta, Indonesia/Bradenton Prep Academy [Bradenton, Fla.]) and senior Jenn Cleary (East Lansing, Mich./East Lansing) were both a shot back of Tan, tying for 34th with 236 totals. In her second straight start, Sitompul posted two straight rounds of 79 before a closing 78, while Cleary, who started her first event of the year, opened with a 77 and followed with rounds of 80 and 79.

Junior Meagan Bauer (Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc) closed the starting five in 42nd at 239, while senior Louisa Shu (West Bloomfield, Mich./Birmingham Seaholm) played as an individual and was 56th at 246.

The Wolverines will travel to South Bend, Ind., Saturday and Sunday (Oct. 2-3) for the Notre Dame Invitational. The 54-hole event will be played at the Warren Golf Course, which will be the host site for the 2011 NCAA Central Regional.
