ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf head coach Jan Dowling announced today (Wednesday, April 16) that Julia Montgomery (Utica, Mich./Utica HS) has joined the Wolverine roster after transferring from Oakland University. Montgomery will be eligible to compete in the fall of 2014 and will have sophomore eligibility.
"We are honored to have Julia join our program. She brings enthusiasm for the game of golf and a deep drive to be a great player in college and beyond," said Dowling. "Julia is fairly new to the competitive world of golf. With continued experience and exposure to great training, her opportunities are endless. She represents the type of student-athlete we are looking for, and we are all excited to see what she accomplishes in the upcoming years as a Wolverine."
In one fall season with the Golden Grizzlies, Montgomery ranked second on the team with a 79.50 scoring average in 11 rounds, competing in all four fall tournaments. Her career-low 73 in round two of the Redbird Invitational (Sept. 8-9) helped her place 19th, her top finish at OU.
Montgomery was valedictorian at Utica High School while earning all-state honors three times; she was also elected team MVP. In 2013 Montgomery competed in eight events, including the Michigan PGA Women's Open at Crystal Mountain. She earned top-10 finishes in six events, with a 54-hole low of 219 (72-69-78) at the Junior PGA qualifier at Kearney Hill (June 4-6).
