Wolverines Add Bauer, Sitompul to Roster for 2009-10 Season

ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf head coach Kathy Teichert announced today (Friday, June 5) the additions of Caramia Sitompul(Jakarta, Indonesia/Brandenton Prep Academy) and Shana Bauer(Grand Blanc, Mich./Grand Blanc HS) to the Wolverine roster for the upcoming 2009-10 season.

"We are delighted to have Caramia and Shana join our program," said Teichert. "Both are quality, experienced and successful players, who have also excelled in the classroom. With both of them having familiarity with the program and the university -- with family members here already -- we are excited to see them come in and compete right away."

Caramia, the younger sister of current men's golfer Alexander Sitompul(Jakarta, Indonesia/Brandenton Prep Academy), played the last four years at the Bradenton Prep Academy in Bradenton, Fla., helping them to the 2006 FHSAA 1A State title. She closed the finals with a 151 (78-73) total to tie for 14th individually. En route to the regional that same season, she finished fourth (73) individually.

In addition to her prep career, she has played in events on the Future Collegians World Tour, with the Western Women's Golf Association and the American Junior Golf Association. She was the medalist at the 2008 AJGA Randy Wise event (74) and the co-medalist at the WWGA Junior Championship (73), where she went on to the quarterfinals of match play. In 2008, Sitompul was honored with the David Leadbetter Golf Academy Most Dedicated Award, the Bradenton Prep Academy Dartmouth Book Award, and was given two IIMG Academies awards -- the Mandy Stoll Memorial Award for Student Athlete of the Year and the Student Leadership Award.

With two sisters, Ashley and Meagan, already on the women's golf team, Shana becomes the third Bauer family member to don the Maize and Blue. A four-year varsity player at Grand Blanc, Bauer helped win the 2006 and fall 2007 DivisionI State Championship as well as a state runner-up title in spring of 2007. After helping Grand Blanc to three straight regional titles and Big Nine titles, Bauer earned all-state first team honors in fall 2007 and 2008, and second team honors in spring of 2007. She was also a three-time All-Big Nine first team selection. A National Honor Society member, she was honored in 2009 as the Kiwanis Student Athlete of the Month and the Detroit Free Press Student Athlete of the Year for the Grand Blanc area.

After capping the season with their seventh trip to an NCAA Regional in the last nine years, the Wolverines lose just one senior -- Lydia Bentez Coln -- from this season's squad.
