PARK RIDGE, ILL. -- Senior Lauren Grogan (Columbus, Ohio/Bishop Watterson HS) and sophomores Grace Choi (Dallas, Texas/Woodrow Wilson HS) and Julia Montgomery (Utica, Mich./Utica) of the University of Michigan women's golf team were named to the Big Ten's Golfers to Watch list today (Wednesday, Sept. 3).
Grogan has tallied 29 starts in 30 career events while in Ann Arbor, including 21 consecutive starts. She shot her season-best round of 72 on three occasions last year, and her tie for medalist runner-up at the Hoya Invitational matched the highest finish by any Wolverine in 2013. She will carry a career scoring average of 77.55 into next season.
Choi started all 10 tournaments last season as a freshman, one of four Wolverines to compete in the full season slate. Her 75.64 scoring average was a U-M freshman record, and she also led the team with that average. Choi led U-M in five of 10 events, and the duo of she and Grogan combined for eight of U-M's 11 top-25 individual finishes last season. One of the two golfers led the Wolverines in each of the season's final four events.
New to the U-M program this year is Montgomery, who comes to Ann Arbor after one season with Oakland University, where she started four fall tournaments before transferring. Montgomery averaged 79.45 strokes per round while leading OU in three of her four career events.
The Wolverines open the 2014-15 season in East Lansing, Mich., with the Mary Fossum Invitational (Sept. 13-14).
