Sept. 4, 2012
ANN ARBOR, Mich. -- University of Michigan women's golf head coach Cheryl Stacy announced today (Tuesday, Sept. 4) that junior Yugene Lee (Athens, Ga./Oconee County HS) was named team captain for the upcoming 2012-13 season.
"Yugene has continued to show leadership qualities over the past two years with her consistent play, her hard work ethic both on and off the course and with her love for the University of Michigan," said Stacy. "We are confident she will help lead this team to new heights as we start a new season."
"I want to thank Coach Stacy and Coach Cash (Colleen Cashman-McSween) for this prestigious honor," said Lee. "I am very excited to be the captain to this amazing program and honored to represent the University of Michigan. I am looking forward to another great year with the coaches and the team. Go Blue!"
Last season, Lee was one of three Wolverines to start all 12 events as she helped U-M reach the NCAA Regional for the seventh time in school history. An All-Big Ten second team performer during the regular season, Lee finished as the medalist runner-up at the Big Ten Championships to earn all-tournament honors.
During her second season, Lee lowered her season-best scoring average best by nearly two-and-a-half shots (75.94) and tied her career best for a single-round score with a two-under 70 in the final round of the Big Ten Championships, setting a new 54-hole tournament career-best total of 217. She finished the season with four top-10 individual finishes. For her efforts, she earned U-M's MVP awards for the season as well as for the regional.
Lee and the rest of the Wolverines begin the upcoming season Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 15-16, heading across the state to East Lansing, Mich., for Michigan State's annual Mary Fossum Invitational at the Forest Akers West Course.
